Q: Can a 96 Honda drive to San Francisco from LA?
Im planning to go to san francisco but i dont know if my car can make it. It a 96 honda civic dx. I dont know if it make it. I dont wanna be stranded in the middle of now where.

A: You don't say why you don't know if your car can make it? How many miles are on it? Is it giving you any trouble or is it generally reliable? Have you kept up maintenance? Are the brakes good etc.? Is the timing belt due to be replaced? You wouldn't want that to break on a trip. Take it to a local Firestone dealer and have them do a safety check. It only cost $20 in NJ for this service [don't know if California would be the same] and they are quite thorough for $20. When was the last time you replaced spark plugs etc.? No matter, even if everything looks good, there is always the possibility that something unexpected could happen. So there can never be any guarantees. Still it is a Honda.

Q: Anyone know a reliable, reasonable Honda mechanic in San Francisco?
The trunk lock on my girlfriend's '93 Honda Del Sol is broken. The key won't turn in the lock at all, and there's no release switch on the inside, so there's no way to open the trunk. The dealership wants $500 to replace the lock, which seems ridiculous. Any suggestions?

A: Well first of all I work for Menlo Honda in Redwood city. Is the key itself worn? If so that may be a simple solution. Or you can also try to shoot some wd-40 into the lock cylinder in case it is jammed with dirt-spray it in and then put the key in and out about 10 times to clean out any debris. If it is the lock cylinder itself that is bad then they may be quoting you to replace the cylinder and rekey it which does take a couple hours labor but still that $500 sounds high.

Q: drive or fly from san francisco to san diego?
I am going alone in a 2001 honda civic. Im coming from san francisco and going down to san diego, I know that it would take 8 hrs or so to drive down there and only an hour to fly, but it would be nice to have a car when i get down there. I already have a place to stay, so no cost there. Do you think gas would be cheaper then a plane ticket roundtrip?

A: It would all depend upon how much you like to drive. I personally would not like to drive all that distance by myself (especially being a woman alone), but if you're comfortable then that's fine. If you plan well enough in advance, you can find GREAT deals on car rentals, and there are places around that rent cars for about $120 for an entire week (don't know how long you're staying). Sure it would cheaper to drive, but flying is FAR more convenient in my book!

Q: Car move from Boston to San Francisco?
I am relocating to San Francisco from Boston due to work. My company is paying for relocation but I am a bit worried about car move. It's a 2004 Honda Accord EX with no scratches, what's the best way to move it across country? Also, is it ok to put some non expensive stuff in the trunk while it is being moved? like computer speakers, duvet etc.? Anyone with similiar expereince? What should I do to make sure it gets to SFO in good condition? Thanks!

A: If you want it done right, you have to do it yourself. It is a straight line on Interstate 80 from the George Washington Bridge (NYC) to the Bay Bridge (SF). Including the four hours from Boston to New York, it'll take 48 hours to do this drive. That means it'll take you around four days to get here. If that simply isn't feasible (and you have to rely on a car shipping service like DAS), then you should remove all valuables from the car. In fact, I'd just leave the glove and CD compartments open so everyone knows there's nothing to steal. Inform your insurance company that you're moving and make sure everything is up to date. Just because you're not driving it yourself... doesn't mean there's no potential for an accident. And take photographs of your car before your ship it. That way you'll have evidence if there's exterior damage.

Q: What kind of parts do I need to repair on my 1996 Honda Civic?
I will be driving from Chicago to San Francisco in the summer. I have a 1996 Honda Civic with 100,000 miles; what do I need to repair? I think I need to repair some belts but which ones? Should I even drive my car; does it have too many miles?

A: 100,000 miles is not that many for a Honda anymore. You can expect that car to last for 200,000. If you haven't already, think about replacing the timing belt now. For the trip, you might bring a spare water pump and fuel pump, if you wanna be extra cautious.

Q: Hollywood To San Francisco?
I want to drive from Hollywood to San Francisco... I'm a student and have a '91 Honda which works perfectly except it seems to chug just a little bit when going uphill... Never stops, but I don't want to risk anything. Renting a car is NOT an option as I'm only 19. I'm wondering, what is the best route from LA to San Fran that has as few mountains as possible? And as much nice scenery as possible? :)

A: The 1 has hills, but no big ones. Beautiful drive too, it's right along the coast. No one is on it during the winter. Every route (1, 101, 5) will have a pass to get off the coast and over some mountains though. If you take the 5 then you'll have to go over pacheco pass (152) or the altamont pass (580) to get into SF bay area from the central valley, as well as the grapevine (5) to get out of LA. And it has crappy scenery too, so i'd avoid that route at all costs.

Q: Los Angeles to San Francisco?

I'm wondering, what is the best route from LA to San Fran that has as few mountains as possible? And as much nice scenery as possible? :) (I kinda want to stop in Santa Cruz, my bf's family lives there)

A: take highway 101, it's probably the best for your car and the best for your eyes. also, it'll provide you with an opportunity to hop on the pacific coast highway (HWY 1) which will take even longer! however, it'll be great scenery and you can stop in Santa Cruz.. then you can catch a glimpse of Mavericks and Half Moon Bay on your way up to San Fran. Good luck and make sure to check your oil before your start your drive!

A: $100? I would just fly then if it's that cheap. save urself the trouble. just rent a car when u got there.

Q: How much does it cost to tow?
A car (honda civic) from San Francisco...to Sacramento? Estimated costs?

A: That's about 75 miles so expect to pay between $175.00 to $225.00....

Q: My 82'Honda CM250 makes a rattling noise, why?
Here's the deal: Crank the bike and there's a very subtle rattling noise underneath normal engine sound. Rev it too hard (or ride up a steep San Francisco hill), the rattling gets louder. By the end of the ride, there is a consistent rattling that eases a little when I pull in the clutch. Help?

A: Somethings loose enough to rattle. Your going to have to do some crawling around and see where the rattling is most pronounced and go from there.

Q: Honda civic si 1999 pricing question?
Hi i am currently planning to buy a 1999-00 Honda civic si. I found one thats clean titled, Has 164K miles, no body or interior damage, and is going for $6000 obo. my question is do you think thats to much for an si with that many miles? and do you think i could talk him down to 4500, its from a private dealer. The cars from San francisco if that makes any difference. And around what mileage would i need to start replacing things such as brakes, timing belt, i.e? If you don't think i can talk him down to 4500 what do you think is the lowest i can talk him down to? and is it worth it for 6000 though? Thanks in Advance!

A: 164k is pretty high mileage. Hondas are great for getting high miles like that, but even still, another 20k you're gonna have to start looking at a rebuild, especially if you want to mod it or anything like that. Check where it was last registered on Carfax, if it was an SF car, it saw a LOT of stop & go traffic... I know since I live in the Bay Area too. If it was from out in Stockton or somewhere like that, then probably not so much, and freeway mileage is way easier on the engine. 6k is too much. If it's a dealer, then he's probably raised the price to turn over as much a profit as possible. Can't hurt to offer him $4500... you may wanna lowball at $4000 and then work your way up.

Q: honda civic ex coupe 07// HORRIBLE gas milage?
According to fueleconomy.gov im supposed to be getting at least 25 mpg city driving. I live in san francisco where there are steep *** hills and pretty bad traffic but i don't see how that explains me gettin about 17 mpg ( i got 220 miles on a full tank). I've been driving like a grandma for the past 2 weeks making sure that its not my driving thats the problem. There are no lights blinking in my car and everything sounds fine. My tire pressure is also not the problem. What are some other factors that can contribute to me getting shitty miles on my civic? What should i do? i shoudlnt say bad traffic.. its more like im at a stop light every 10 seconds

A: the steep hills cause the engine to work harder, thus burning more gas. it has to stay in a lower gear in order to manage the hills. start looking at your rpms - if they're higher than 3 on average, then that's where your gas is going.

Q: honda civic coupe 07 EX HORRIBLE GAS MILAGE!?
According to fueleconomy.gov im supposed to be getting at least 25 mpg city driving. I live in san francisco where there are steep ass hills and pretty bad traffic but i don't see how that explains me gettin about 17 mpg ( i got 220 miles on a full tank). I've been driving like a grandma for the past 2 weeks making sure that its not my driving thats the problem. There are no lights blinking in my car and everything sounds fine. What should i do? i shoudlnt say bad traffic.. its more like im at a stop light every 10 seconds

A: think of it this way, when you are sitting at a light or in traffic and not moving, you are getting zero MPG. that zero MPG brings down your avg. MPG over the course of a tankful of gas. it is like a bowling avg., one bad game and your avg. drops like a lead balloon. hope this helps.

Q: Is "an M1A2 Abrams MBT" the answer to the question What Would Jesus Drive (WWJD)???
I've noticed that many individuals who drive Honda Insights and other such gay vehicles have begun affixing 'What Would Jesus Drive' bumper stickers to their "cars" (go-carts) in an attempt to suggest that our Savior would drive such a vehicle. Such a suggestion would seem to demonstrate a fundamental misunderstanding of the nature of our Saviors return. Revelations clearly states that Jesus will not be returning to Earth to cruise San Francisco Gay Bars (the only use for which an Insight is appropriate), but to rescue those Christians who have held out against the forces of the Anti-Christ and by that time will be holed up in their final defensive stronghold, the walled city of Jerusalem. Since Jesus will be returning to lead a relief column into a defensive pocket, and then do battle with the forces of darkness, it would seem much more likely that he will be commanding an M1A2 Abrams MBT at the head of an armored column then cruising in an Insight. http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/abrams.htm

A: Well, I would think he'd leave all the driving to his soldiers. I remember Jesus being the kind of guy who'd rather be on foot. Or he would invent some kind of totally bad-a$$ed vehicle that we dont even know about yet.

Q: 2007 Pilot have noticed that on an incline nrml driveway while in Drive gear the car rolls backward?
I bought 2007 Honda Pilot- I have noticed that on an incline (my normal driveway) while in Drive gear the car rolls backward when I release the brake. It feels really scary and unsafe. My husband has a Rodeo and it does not do that at all. I am really worried about this, especially when drving in San Francisco. when I release the brake. It feels really scary and unsafe. My husband has a Rodeo and it does not do that at all. I am really worried about this, especially when drving in San Francisco. It is an Automatic Transmition. How do you change the idle on a car? Is this something the dealer has to do?

A: Even automatics roll back on big hills. If your drive way is pretty inclined then its okay. the idle speed might not have enough power to keep you from rolling back. Most of the time you don't roll back as much as you think, so it doesn't matter because you won't hit the car behind you. If you think the car behind you is too close you can press the brake and the gas at the same time(not too hard) and then let go of the brake. PS if you think that's scary try driving a stick.
