Q: Need info on getting a production job at the Toyota plant in San Antonio. Does everything go thru the website?
I live in Tennessee right now and i want to relocate to Texas and get on at one of the two car plants located down there, the GM one at Arlington and the Toyota one at San Antonio. So what i am wondering is are all applications done online or can i come in person to apply at both plants? Also let me know if any of you have any first hand experience with applying at either of these plants. Thanks in advance for all intelligent replies.

A: Most of the hiring for the main plant and the 20+ suppliers is being handled by Alamo Worksource. I've pasted the link below. Most of the workers for the first two shifts at the main plant have been hired. But, there is the possibility that they will be adding a second assembly line. And, the local paper had an article that many of the future hires will actually start with one of the suppliers or the temp agency. I recently toured the plant and it is magnificent. The first couple of thousand trucks are completed and on the way to dealers. Note: there are many other employers that are involved in the Toyota plant than just Toyota. Plus there is a big demand right now for medical workers. I think all of the applications now are being taken on-line. But, you can also go to the Alamo Worksource location and they might have some other leads for you. Good luck.

Q: Where should I go for an oil change in San Antonio?
I just moved to SA and am trying to find a decent place to get an oil change where I won't get ripped off or sold items I don't need. I am considering the toyota dealership, though $$. Can anyone make any recommendations? What about the chains, like Oil Can, Jiffy Lube, etc...?

A: For the extra $5 you'll pay for an original equipment Toyota oil filter and oil, why not at least go to the dealer and bring any free warranty or recall work up to date on your car? Review Toyota service bulletin titles below and ask the service writer about problems that may be fixed for free. Look up your Toyota dealer online and see what service arrangements you can make online. http://www.edmunds.com/maintenance/MaintenanceServlet http://prg.toyotapartsandservice.com/index.php?vehicle=Corolla&year=2007

Q: If I accept job at Toyota, should I commute from north side(avoid south)?
I have a chance for employment at Toyota in San Antonio. Reading around about San Antonio's safe areas to live, the only side that seems to get recommended is the north side. Particularly the south is deemed unsafe but that is where Toyota is located. I would need an apartment, not a house. I can't seem to find any good reviews of south side apartments. Is it a pain to commute from north to south? how is traffic? Thank you.

A: I can not speak to any apartments in particular on the south side as I rarely travel south of Durango Street. There are, however, several nice areas on the south side of San Antonio, and new contruction of neighborhoods is occuring all the time. As far as crime and safety goes, a review of the crime statistics by zipcode show that the north side has a crime rate 124% of the national average. The west/northwest side (in the Sea World Area) has the lowest crime rate, and the southside and east side areas are both above the national average. Just reading the blanket statistics and the summary numbers it would seem the best place to live would be west/northwest. However, the west/northwest side has the highest level of murders and rapes, but the lowest level of "reported thefts". The North side especially the area already mentioned around 281/1604 with it's high rate of crime has the lowest level of violent crimes (murder/rape) in the city and a higher level of reported crime significantly theft and shoplifting. The southside has an above the national average level of violent crime. So every area of a major city has it's problems, just decide do you want your car stereo and accessories gone or your life. Incidentally, I now live in north central San Antonio. I have to agree with the first responder about the apartments around here, but I would also suggest an apartment in Northwest SA out the I 10 corridor, there are several great apartments there and I 10 goes straight downtown and merges with I 35 to the southside. Good Luck in SATX But if you move here you have to love the Spurs (it's a city ordinance)

Q: Where is a good place to live at in San Antonio Texas?
I will be moving there soon and I do not know the area. My husband will be working at the Toyota plant, but I heard the south area is kinda crummy. I am looking for an apartment area. Thanks

A: I'm just about to move from this dump. Best wishes to you. The southside, despite what some say, is full of drugs and crime, and the San Antonio police aren't exactly models of excellence. Before you lease an apartment, talk to people there, and ask specifically about crimes that have occurred at the apartment. A friend moved into an apt. until her house was ready and afterward she found out that in the past year there had been a murder and a rape there! The place looked decent enough, too. Beware of people pulling the "whiplash" stunt on you to try and sue your insurance for you rear ending them even if they cut you off. Prepare to hear endless conversations about The Spurs and The Riverwalk, neither of which are particularly fascinating. However, every place is what you make it I suppose, but I wasn't able to make much out of SA!
