Q: How much does a steering box (part, labor, repair etc.) cost to replace in a 1991 Jeep wrangler in New York?
I live in long island and the car is manual 4 cylinder. I am just wondering how much that would cost to replace...the part alone and also the cost of repair ( with labor etc.)

A: well it all depends if u go new or salvage,i would go salvage cause its alot cheaper and those steering boxes dont go out that often,and its really easy 2 replace,id say 225$for new 50$ for used,free u do it your self,65$an hour for labor u have someone else do it.hope i helped ya later
Q: Where can I go off-roading with my Jeep in Central New York (near Syracuse)?
There is only one place I know of, and, apparently the DEC has taken over the land, because I was threatened with a ticket and jail time if I was ever caught there again. Seems like there has to be SOMEWHERE you can go get muddy and have some fun! Also, are any of you jeep owners in CNY going to Camp Jeep this year? It would be fun to get a bunch of us and drive down together.
A: To avoid any future run-ins with The Law, I'd say Rausch Creek Off-Road Park would probably be your best bet.
It's located just off of I-81 at Exit 107, in Eastern-Central PA (roughly due south of Central NY), and offers over 1700 acres of forest trails and glacial rock deposits to play on.

Even though it is taking place *VERY* near me this year, I can't go -- It's a 'Jeep Thing'... they don't allow any other vehicle makes to attend.

Q: Are wheel spacers legal in new york state on a vehicle?
I have a Jeep Wrangler with 31x10.50's and i rub at times. i want to add some 1.25" wheel spacers to the axels but i wasn't sure if they were legal in New York
A: Rub where? And wheel spacers are not usually a good idea. They put much more stress on the suspension and steering components. If they rub the control arms in the front when you're turning you can adjust the stop bolt behind the steering knuckle. If the rub the fenders spacers wouldn't help anyway.
Q: Different Gas Mileage in New York vs. Michigan?
Everytime I filled up my 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee in New York (Ithaca), my mileage gauge said have 412 miles till empty. Ever since I have moved to Michigan (4 months ago) and filled up there, the most that the mileage gauge will say is 323 miles till empty. Any ideas?
A: it has alot to do with the altitude think of it like this the higher up in the air you go the less air there is the less air the more full it will burn

i need to move. i want to i mean. i work as a lab assistant. any advice on job availability in new york? cost of living advice as well. only thing is i have a jeep wrangler and i LOVE my jeep. i've heard it's hard to get around in new york in a car. even that you don't need a car actually. how true is that.
A: There are many teaching hospitals in NY (NYU, Cornell NY, Columbia Presbyterian, Belvue, Kings County/Down State , Beth Israel, Memorial Sloan Kettering, Mt. Sinai,Beth Israel etc. etc.) it will be easy to find a job. If you live out in Queens it will be easier to keep your car and at some hospitals out of Manhattan driving to work might not be a great problem. Many people here don't have cars and many of us who do use the subway when possible. The good news is that if you live out where its reasonable to keep a car the cost of living will be lower than if you live near the subway.

What are some critical things I should do to my Cherokee, moved from Florida to New York?
A: You can check your anti freeze yourself by goin to autozone and get and antifreeze tester (maybe $2). Pretty much just a clear guage with a tube on one end and a squeeze ball on the other. Suck some antifreeze into it and read where the guage to tell if you've got the right mixture. Also, you might want to switch to a lighter engine oil like a 20 wt (it'll say in your manual what you need to be running for certain temps, and you'll be at the lower end of it). And check your tire pressure, it should be lower in the cold weather so go ahead and add a little. Just be sure to keep an eye on it when it gets warm again cause you might need to bleed of a little pressure.
