Q: Where can I find an off road shop that installs lift kits and other jeep parts in Chicago?
I would like to find a shop that only does 4x4s in the Chicago area. I don't have time or space to do the work myself.
Thanks.
I already tried yahoo and google search. I was looking for someone who has already done business with the shop that way it is a much safer bet than pulling any random shop.
A: Try "Suburban Driveline" in Villa Park or "4x4's & More" in Lakemoor. That's all that I know of.
Q: How much would a mechanic (in Chicago) charge to replace the following suspension parts on a 98 Jeep Wrangler?
(4) Shocks
Lower Control Arms & Bushings
Upper Control Arm Bushings Only
Anti-Sway Bar
Driver Side Steering Knuckle
Passenger Side Steering Knuckle
Outer Tie Rod
Drag Link
Track Bar
A: Quite a bit. $80 or so an hour, maybe up to 8 hours for 2 days...

Q: I want to put a locker in my Jeep, know any experienced mechanics in Chicagoland?
I am thinking about getting Detroit Truetracs installed front & rear on my 1997 Wrangler. This is beyond me mechanically so I am looking for a professional to do it. I live in the near west suburbs of Chicago. Any assistance would be appreciated!
A: Ask the guys at your favorite parts store who they would use for the conversion. Contact the local off road club and see who they recommend. You can always try the jeep dealer, if they do not do the work, they will know who does.
Q: where can i get a low cost auto mechanic to replace my car oxygen sensors in chicago area?
2003 Jeep Liberty Limited. 3 O2 sensors need to be replaced.
A: If your under 80K miles, should be an emission warranty item. No charge at the dealership.
Q: Any recommendations for tires for 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
This vehicle needs to go at least 2 more years. Rarely, if ever, leaves paved roads. Climate is Chicago, so it sees all conditions. Would like to keep road noise low.
A: Check out Tirerack.com for comparisons and revies on quality tires at the best possible price shipped to where you want them installed.
Q: My 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee recently broke down. Needs a new engine. How can I get the most money out of it?
I need to get rid of this vehicle, but I would like try and get the most money out of it I can. I am still paying on it and I do not need another vehicle. I just need to get it off my hands. Any one have any suggestions how to get rid of it and get some decent money for it? I live in Chicago. Thanks in advance!
A: Its costing that guy 7.5K because its a 3.7L out of a new commander that got hydrolocked. I assume that you have a 4.0L in your Cherokee?
If so, finding a good replacement engine should be very easy, and inexpensive as far as engines go.
To get the most money out of your Grand, it must be complete and running. A grand with a non running engine is worth thousands less. In terms of selling the vehicle it is worth the money to replace the engine and then sell it.
Say the vehicle is worth $7000 running, non running $2000-3000 is a high estimate. You lose at least 4 or 5 grand by not having the vehicle running. I'd spend the money to replace the engine, you'll get it back.
Q: Will anyone be at the chicago autoshow?
I heard they are going to have a bunch of new cars. The biggest companies that are going to appear i think are Jeep, Ford and GM.
A: Chicagoautoshow.com
Nearly every auto manufacturer that sells cars in the US will be represented there.
The Chicago Auto Show website has a list of every vehicle that will be there.
Q: How much to replace 4 Shocks, Track Bar, Tie Rod, Drag Link, Control Arms & Bushings on 1997 Jeep Wrangler?
And I live in Chicago...
Oh! A mechanic will have to do the work, it's my daily driver and I'm swamped at work. Have to get a quick turn around and can't take a day off.
A: Thom's Four Wheel Drive on Pulaski north of Irving has the most reliable service and best pricing for repairs to 4WD vehicles.
I couldn't tell you a price but they could give you a quote.
My brothers, my wife and I take our trucks and Jeeps to them.
Q: Question about the horn in my 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee?
I had the vehicle in Chicago and it appears someone tried to steal my car, but only got away with my horn. I know, I know, but the horn is part of my factory alarm. Anyways, I got a new horn and tested it and it worked fine. So I installed it and now it won't work. Is there a fuse that I'm not finding that I may have blown in the install? Anything else I need to be checking here? I really need my horn to work again. Thanks for any help
A: You may have to reset the computer in your vehicle, also make sure that the ground is good. You can also look into your fuses, sometimes your connected to the wrong side of the terminal. Hope that is helpful :]
Q: I need to buy the ecm (computer) for my 95 wrangler, but I don't seem to find it any where around Chicago?
I checked some auto parts like autozone and it costs around $400, which i thing is a little pricy for the year of the vehicle. I also know that I can get it on line but I really need to get my jeep to work asap. Any tips are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
My mechanic narrowed everything down by process of elimination. Originally my jeep wouldn't start on cold weather. And we changed everything, from battery, gas pump, differential, tps, starter, etc. As soon as he took the ecm off, brought it inside and let it warm up and then put it back on, the freaking jeep just started like nothing!. But as soon as it got cold again, the same problem.
A: $400 is a good price.
Why do you think you need an ecm?
Q: I have a 2007 Jeep Wrangler 2 door should i,,,,,,?
I have a 2007 2 door Jeep Wrangler with the dual top option, I want to sell the soft top and keep only the hard top. I live near Chicago and the weather isnt all that bad. Should I keep the soft top or sell it?
A: Eric is not correct, not every hard top came with a soft top.I would keep it because you will not be able to sell it for what it is worth.
Q: Front end damage: what is likely in need of repair, the power steering is out and the antifreeze leaked out?
I know very little about car repair. I have mild front end damage from a rearend car accident. For a Chicago suburb, what costs are likely involved to get my Jeep running (not including body work)?
A: Minimum radiator replacement ~$200,
likely brake hose or cylinder damage ~$100;
however hard to recover for less than $500 without body work.
Q: i want to buy a car from craiglist chicago?
is it the right thing to do they have some really good prices that i like for the jeeps i wanted a cheap car for my b day not an expensive one
is it right i really need a car before school starts

2 parts to this questions
to moe:
u need to be more professional with your answer so i did not clear up my question
A: If you are interested in buying a car, but feel as though you simply do not have the money, a government car auction might be the best opportunity for you.
There are there kinds of car auctions:
Dealer only auctions --- only licensed dealers are allowed to buy or sell cars,You can not get in or bid without being a licensed car dealer or an employee.
Public auctions --- the public is allowed in.In fact, you usually cant by anything from public 'open' auctions because usually the pricing is too high.
Government and Police auctions --- Every day, the government confiscates, seizes and repossesses thousands of Vehicles. These vehicles are usually typically listed at 90% OFF their original value and auctions usually start at $100.
Four months ago,I bouht a near new SUV from online government auction. It only cost me $730 and i have not had one problem with it yet .
You can check out http://seized-car-auction.info ,That site lists top 5 Police auction sites and help you choose the best one.
Good luck!
Q: Off Duty Chicago Officer Killed?
I didn't know him and I'm not part of the Dept...I just do this everytime a officer is down...And in this case...THIS SUCKS!!!
Authorities this morning were offering a reward for information leading to an arrest in the slaying of an off-duty Chicago police officer on the city's West Side.
The reward of up to $1,000 was being offered through the Cook County Crimestoppers program, according to a police alert.
It warned the person or persons responsible "should be considered armed and dangerous," and members of the public should not try to apprehend them.
Anyone with information was asked to call 311, the city's information line, Chicago police at 312-744-4000, or Crimestoppers at 1-800-535-STOP.
The officer, an 8-year veteran of the department, was shot after getting out of his car in the back of his home in the 2500 block of West Harrison Street at 1:47 a.m., said Chicago Police Supt. Phil Cline.
He had just returned home after finishing his secondary job and picking up fast food for himself and his wife, authorities said.
The officer was identified this morning by the Cook County medical examiner's office as Jose Vasquez, 34. He was a member of the department's elite special operations section, according to police spokeswoman Monique Bond.
After being found in the back of his building, authorities took him to Stroger Hospital of Cook County several blocks away, but he was pronounced dead about 2:15 a.m.
"We have a family that's lost a husband and a son," Cline said in a brief statement outside the hospital. Cline said police have no suspects in custody this morning.
Police did not say what Vasquez did for a second job. At his home in the Lawndale neighborhood, police had blocked off the area near the three-flat building where the shooting occurred.
Neighbor Gabrielle Henderson said she knew Vasquez and his wife from barbecue parties that they had in their backyard last year. She said the couple had moved into the first floor and basement of their building about two years ago.
"He was a nice guy, a friend to everybody," Henderson, 18, said in a telephone interview this morning.
Henderson said she did not hear anything out of the ordinary this morning until she awoke to police knocking on her door. She said Vasquez owned a red Jeep, which was parked in the back of his building this morning.
Police were releasing no further details of the investigation this morning.
A: Every time a cop is killed it effects a large part of society . cop killers represent a greater threat to the general public. I have attended too many fellow officer's funerals, but I have also happily been involved with the apprehension of cop killers, some of them even made it to court. R.I.P. brother
