Q: Where should I take my 1974 Honda CB550 for a tuneup in Chicago?
I just bought a 1974 Honda CB 550 four. It needs some minor work. Do any of you guys know someone in Chicago who is specialized in these bikes? Who do you reccomend? I love the bike and I really want the work that I can not do done right.
It needs a tune up and cleaned carbs.
Thanks so much guys, you Honda techs have really helped me out a ton with all my questions. As a rookie your advice has been extremely valuable to me. Thanks.
Ed
A: 99% of dealerships will not take in any bike over 10yrs old for repairs.
--Hard to get parts - they're discontinued.
--Try to adjust something and it breaks - costing the customer more than the estimated repair price.
--Shop manuals unavailable.
--New mechanics don't know how to repair them.
--Your best bet would be to look in the phone book for a "non" name brand, repir shop. Or get it worked on in the middle of the winter when work is slow.
--You can always purchase a repir manual, ask questions here and/or get a mechanicaly inclined neighbor to do the work.

Q: How should I go about buying a 1995 honda that is located in florida and im in chicago?
The private seller offered free shipping of the car, but how do i trust the guy if i send my payment and never recieve the car? Is there a way to protect my payment just in case the car is never sent or it might be a scam???
THanks
the car is around 3000 dollars, and the guy selling is in the military. hes stated tat hes going to iraq in three weeks so he needs to get rid of his car fast. reason i ask is that maybe he gets free shipping of cars? so there is no way to protect a payment that is sent?
ok thanks for the answers. Thought it would be similar to people buying a plasma tv or things of that nature on ebay and how their payments are protected.
A: Don't do it.
Q: Honda dealer (Chicago,IL) asking $1500 for my 98 Accord LX 100000 miles service?
Will that really cost that much for the 100000 mile or 7year service? Is it reliable and cheaper if I go with non-Honda dealer? Can I skip this service as I don't have any issues or problems with my car? Please advice me.
A: Never blindly pay what the dealer quotes. The dealer is a private mechanic like any other except they generally charge more labor dollars to make up for what they lose on warranty claims.
Take out your owners manual and see what is required at 100k. Call a few shops and tell them what you need done and get some quotes. $1500 probably includes "Dealer Suggested Items" that Honda doesn't even require for your car which is usually a bunch of fluff to help their bank accounts grow.

Q: 2002 honda civic EX ??? HELP ???? CHICAGO
I am planning to buy civic as it is good on gas, and at the same time it is reliable. But at the same time I dont want high price for it. I am at student 21 years old. I saw 2002 honda civic EX 2 DOOR it is having 1,17,000 miles on it. This car had small damage according to the owner. He says some one had banged his car from behind. He says it was small accident had he has fixed it. It runs good now NO engine or frame damage. I wanted to know how much should i pay for it. I live in CHICAGO.
Thanks
A: I would say no more then $5000. He may say it was small damage but how would you really know? Plus you have to be careful of Civic's during that time. A number of recalls were posted for some of them.
http://www.hondaproblems.com/ Make sure the owner took care of them if they applyed to this car. It's always good to check a cars history before buying. Car Fax is a good start. Plus give it a good test drive and cheak up. Never go by the car's reputation alone.
Q: Should I need to change timing belt for Honda Accord 2000 car?
My car is Honda Accord 2000, 4cy, 60k miles. I thought doing 60k maintainance. Do I need to change timing belt since its 7 years old car? Guys could cheap and best honda repair center in chicago..
Could you suggest some cheap and best repair centre in chicago?
A: You should be good to 100k but no further. It is a couple hundred to replace, but if it breaks then your talking BUKU BUCKS. It will bring down a world of hurt on your engine. Trust me.
Q: what is the best all season tire for a 2001 honda civic lx in chicago, il?
A: Get anything kumho, like the asx or solus, which handle great and are not too pricey. I dunno about chicago, but you might look into a good snow tire, like the Hankook 409, the sickest snow tire ever made.
Q: I'd like to know what Volkswagen or Honda dealerships i should definitely avoid in the Chicago area? Thanks
A: none
Q: How do I get my Honda Civic ready for winter?
I purchased a 2001 Honda Civic that until now hasn't been operated outside of Texas and California. I live in Chicago. How do I get it ready for winter?
A: Nothing really, the only thing I can suggest (lived in Connecticut for 20 years) is getting an ice scraper, a small shovel and some spare cable in case you end up getting stuck in snow.
When you leave your car in the snow for a while use the ice scraper (which should have a brush on it) to remove snow and ice off the windows, lights, and wheel-wells of your car.
Good luck and safe traveling!
Q: anyone in chicago know of a store..that i could get glowing gauges for a 1997 honda accord ex ?
thanks
A: Murray's discount auto might have them, or you can buy them online at http://www.streetracer-accord.com/
Q: Would anyone like to buy Silver 01 Honda CRV with only 50000 miles on it for $11,000 around the chicago area?
Excellent Condition, One Owner, Clean Title and CARFAX Report, Power Windows/Locks, Brand New Exhaust, Brakes, Tires, Please let me know if you are intrested or call at 847-338-1265
A: Your price seems a little high. The pricing books have this car coming in just above $9,000 for a private party sale. I see your information about new exhaust, tires and so on, which gives a little bump. Are there some other features that give the car extra value?
Thanks.
Q: How much more gas does the Honda Accord 4 cylinder, spend over the Honda Civic 4 cylinder? Thanks.?
I live in Chicago and do lots of highway driving but am also stuck in traffic quite a bit. Obviously the Civic will save me more but just how much more. Thanks a million.
A: Not much more, but you're getting a lot more power with the decrease in fuel economy. I'm also from Chicago and when I used to drive the expressways everyday, I'd be getting about 27-30 MPG (with non aggressive driving and with stop go traffic w/ my '03 Accord). The Civic's MPG is a little higher, but not by much. My sister has a Civic, and I believe she'd get at least 32-34 MPG, but there's no acceleration! If you're choosing the car solely on MPG, get the Civic, but if you want a more "luxurious" car, choose the Accord. Good Luck!!
Q: I just purchased a 1991 Honda Civic hatchback with 136k on it, can I drive it to colorado?
I had it checked out by the mechanic, said to be in great shape, sounds good, body and interior are in good condition. Engine too supposedly, replaced the axles, tuned up, oil changed etc. Driving around Chicago with zero problems. BUT as I was loaded up ready to depart yesterday smoke started pouring out the hood, the heat shot up...seems like a coolant hose busted...a mile from my house. GOt towed to the mechanic, who is replacing the hoses. This is my first OLD car. (40mpg!) Shall I still make the drive? Is it foolish to expect a 16 year old car to make it across the country? I love the car, and want to do this, but don't want to be stuck with a lump of metal in the middle of nebraska.
A: You can break a hose anytime. While it's in have them replace the belts and the other hoses as well; grab a box of extra fuses and if the mechanic says you are good to go....go.
136K is no big deal on that car.
Q: Where to find a nice mini van in Northwest Indiana, near Chicago with bad credit?
My dream van is the Honda Odssey mini van, or the Chrysler Town and Country are there any dealers in my area, that will finance with bad credit, have a down payment. We need a minivan as soon as possible. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
The credit situation is due to high medical bills, from a auto accident hit by a drunk driver.
A: I am a car salesman in Northern Indiana, we have different programs, for all situations. You can call 574-247-9900 and ask for Dan. Or e-mail me at gdmosley@yahoo.com.
Q: Where I can find in Chicago area people that REALLY know how and can put turbo on my car?
I just look for people that will not practice on my car, but will do it perfectly and profesionally, because it is a 2008 Honda Civic Cupe.
A: My boyfriend and i just went through this, use dsmtuners.com and look in the chat rooms. For the most part people on there know what they're talking about. Ask around. I'm sure they can lead you to someone who can come install it or talk you through it.
