A: Minimum should be $100 no matter what. It all depends on trade in, add ons. They are not getting rich if thats what you are wondering. Q: How much is it to change front wheel bearings (both of them) for Toyota Camry 1996, 4 cylinder in Boston?
I recently moved to Boston and my car broke down. Mechanic told me that my front wheel bearings are gone and it will cost me $500 to fix them. A friend of mine from Atlanta did the same thing for twice cheaper in Atlanta. I was wondering if I am being overcharged or not.

A: You are being overcharged, but as with most big cities, if you can't do it yourself, then you have to pay someone to do it for you. I show up to work every day with 60k worth of tools. If you bought the tools needed to do the job, and the parts, it would cost you about that much any way. The actual mechanic that repairs it (if it's not owner operated) will earn about $75.00, the rest goes to the garage owner. When choosing a repair facility, beware of people in clean white shirts. When you find your mechanic, keep him. Remember him at Christmas (get him a card or something to eat) and you would be surprised with the results. I am wondering about the actual repair..... I beleive that car is front wheel drive, and has floating (no wheel bearings) rotors. There are rear wheel bearings, but maybe it's an error in communication/misunderstanding. I would look for another shop, and especially in the outlying neighborhoods Look at it this way. I am a Native Rhode Islander,(now residing in Arizona) we may get cheaper auto repair, but try to get a good pizza, seafood, an Irish Bar, or a grinder out here. Next time , I will be asking you to send me some grub. Double check that repair with another garage, something doesn't sound right. Good Luck

Q: How do I replace the car stereo in a 1995 Toyota Camry?
Hello Answerers! I just bought a 1995 Toyota Camry. It still has the stock stereo in it, which I'd like to replace with a new Kenwood unit I bought a few months ago. Additionally, I'd like to replace the factory speakers with a Boston Acoustics set that I bought with the radio. The issue is that I can't figure out how to remove the old stereo and speakers, and I'm worried I'm going to cause damage to the car, which is in great condition. On my old Lumina, I was able to simply pull on pieces of the dashboard and I was able to access the stereo, this one is providing a bit more resistance. Can someone provide either detailed instructions or a web link explaining how to replace the stereo? Thanks in advance! Joey

A: this are the instructions good luck http://www.installdr.com/InstallDocs/Toyota/PDF/869013.pdf

Q: how much is it to replace 2004 toyota camry le front bumper and bumper attachment?
The entire front bumper. with the attachment. primed and painted as well. how much would it cost parts and labor? in Boston, MA.

A: There are two ways of doing it, original parts or aftermarket. i would go with aftermarket bumper and parts simply because you can not tell the difference by looking at it. original bumper plus painting should cost around 600$ depending on the quality of the paintjob. aftermarket parts you are looking at about 350-400 $. what i would do is just look for junkyyards and find the same color car as yours and take the bumper out of there. much cheaper solution and you cant tell paintwork then.

Q: I'm driving from Portland, OR to Boston, MA in February. Can anyone recommend a relatively snowfree route?
I know that I-70 stays pretty clear throughout the winter but I dont know if I want to spend the time to go that far south.. I'll be driving a Toyota Rav4 and I'll have about a week to get there.

A: unless you plan on going via I-10 to I-95 at Jacksonville and then up the coast-3000 mile detour you will hit snow Anything north of I-40 will get snow Who ever told you that I-70 is snow -free in winter is wrong. I -70 goes over the Rockies 11000'+ and then crosses the great plains and february blizzards on the plains are the things of legend. So take 84 to 80 at SLC because you 're much better of going through Cheyenne than Denver stay on 80 and when you get to cleveland make up your mind whether using the NYS thruway into the mass pike is the way to go or would you be better of staying on 80 thru pa and the taking 84 to scranton , danbury and picking up the mass pike at worcester mass carry extra food, water , a good park or better yet a sleeping bag a shovel and a large bag of cat litter and enjoy driving a cross america in winter.

Q: Driving interstate with a 99 Toyota corolla?
I have a 1999 Toyota Corolla that I have had since 2002. I wanted to know how I can determine if it is safe to drive from Boston to Washington Dc, the furthest I've taken my car was Philadelphia in summer of 2007 but it did fine. The car is getting close to 10 years old and i just want to make sure that I will be able to make it back and forth without any problems.

A: You have a Corolla, you will be fine.. just check all your fluids and crap before the trip.

Q: Should I get a Toyota Corolla or RAV4?
I have narrowed down my choice for a new car to Toyota. My wife and I are debating over whether to get a Corolla or an SUV RAV4. In my wife's family, every one drives an SUV-her dad, brothers, her mom. I have always driven compact, economy cars, as well as everyone in my family. I like paying less at the pump. I don't worry about anyone stealing my car. If I am in an accident, an economy car is less cost to replace. I have noticed that every winter my town is less and less thorough in plowing and sanding the roads and there have been times when I have skidded a few times and I have been lucky. It might be time to get an SUV. With the economy the way it is, the SUV might be good to have to tow a trailer like a U Haul it to tow a lawn mower or for taking compost and leaves to the dump for a 2nd job doing landscaping. The SUV would be good for travel from Boston to the mountains in NH and VT. Do you own a Toyota Corolla (economy sedan)or Toyota RAV4 (SUV)? If not, weigh in anyway.

A: If you drive in an area that gets snow, I recommend the RAV4. They're great in the snow, and get decent fuel mileage. If you want to tow anything you need the SUV, the Corolla won't tow very well, and you would end up towing the car behind your lawn mower after a while, they're not built for towing. I don't own either vehicle. I drive a 2008 Toyota Tundra though. Both vehicles you mentioned are great due to Toyota's excellent reliability. Toyota's will run forever when properly cared for. Get the RAV4 4WD model, and you'll be glad you did, especially during winter months, you won't have to worry about if the roads are plowed, just throw it in 4WD, and go. Remember though, 4WD will not help you stop, it only helps you get moving, and has minimal aid in turning.

Q: 2001 Toyota Camry car engine died. Not sure about the reason. What to do with the car? Suggestions please.?
Hi All, I have a 2001 Toyota camry car with 93ooo miles running very fine with out any issues.Due to the snow storm on 12/20/2008 in Boston, my car is filled with snow. I pulled my car from snow and went to office to half way. All of the sudden my car stopped and didnt started.Took to the Toyota showrrom and they said the engine died. Replacing the engine takes $5100 + Labor charge of 10 hrs. I need suggestions on What to do with the car? Is any one going to buy the rest of parts? Thanks for the pointers

A: First of all NEVER NEVER take a car to the dealer unless it is under full factory warranty it is a guaranteed rip off. there can be many reasons why the car wont start. too many to list anyway. it can be something as simple as the engine got wet and you need to let it sit for a while and dry off. it can be you need carb choke ( 4 dollar spray bottle). if you really need an engine you can buy one from many junk yards in your area for much less then that ( dont be scared of the term junk yards most of them can be perfect cars that just got hit in the back and the only thing that's good on them is the engine) a good website for that is www.car-parts.com. im a used car dealer in new jersey and i have a 2002 camry in stock if you are interested you can email me. once again NEVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO THE DEALER they make up charges and rip people off. it takes a mechanic about 2 hours to put the engine in ( shouldnt charge more then 600 to put it in). go to some local mom and pops mechanics compare prices.

Q: how to check piston noise in a rav 4 toyota?
were can find computer for piston noise in boston mass

A: I am not sure what you want to know from your question, but I can tell you that the knock sensor is usually mounted on the block just under the intake manifold on the "rear" of the engine. If that is what you are after, that is where it is.
