Q: Jeep wrangler in Boston, Ma?
Hey all, I am moving to boston this summer and was wondering if a soft top wrangler would be ok in boston, like in the winter and stuff. I like to offroad and stuff, and input would be great...I am looking at getting a 2006 or earlier, not a big fan of the newer ones, so anything on which model to get would be great too. thanks in advance. Mike
A: Hey!
A soft top Wrangler would be great in Boston. I have gone to quite a few off roading events in the North Eastern states, and live up there, and the Wrangler is a stable for most off-roading events. Inexpensive, easy to modify and good in most situations, it's the perfect vehicle.
The Rubicon is a great model, not expensive and very impressive features. Mods are extremely common for the Rubicon and not hard to get, also some of them won't void the warranty (depends on what and the company of purchase).
You gotta remember though, simply because it's four wheel drive doesn't mean it'll stop in the snow. Lots of people think that in this region about awd models, if your new to it. For the most part, Wranglers are lightweight so I would worry all too much about that, but if you consider another heavier SUV or vehicle, keep that in mind. I also don't like the newer Wranglers Mike, imo they've watered them down. Good luck on the purchase.
Q: amps and distortion etc. . . 2005 Jeep GC w/ Boston Upgrade?
I just want to know if installing my new sub (Alpine Type R 12" 500 watts RMS) will take some of the stress of other speakers. I have 2 factory high range (maybe tweeters) 3.5" in front dash. currently they have some distortion when bass hits as it seems like they try to play some of the frequencies. my front 6x9s are the woofers and handle like 90% of bass and rear are full range that sound pretty good. now i have factory amp somwhere in car and i cant access it and im not doing anything. it has built in crossover that directs te signals but i cant modify it. u think adding the sub will handle all of deep notes and free up tweeters and rear speakers and let them play mid - higher frequencies easier and cleaner or will they stay same and the woofer will just add its own bass in rather than carrying some of the load. any help is great thanks.
A: If you add a sub, it will just add its own bass like you said. For some reason your crossover is sending low frequency sounds to the tweeters. If you cant adjust it, I would make sure you have the tweeters hooked up where they are supposed to be on the amp that way they get the high level signals like they are supposed to.
Q: What exactly is involved in prepping a non-california car to pass CA Emmissions?
What needs to be done, can it be done myself? The vehicle I'll be doing this to is a 97-00 Jeep Wrangler.
I'll be moving from Boston to Southern California. I'm considering buying one before I move out there if its feesible.
A: There is no "prep". The serial number of the vehicle will tell the tester what state it was sold in and how it should be equipped. There is nothing to be added onto the car. It just should be in good operating condition and all the original smog equipment installed and working. California cars sold new here have some differnt standards, but they would not apply to a used car brought here. When you get here just register the car with the DMV and they will give you a bit of time to get it smog checked.
Q: what would be the best audio system to put in a jeep patriot.?
i was wondering what would be the best way to go..i dont have the boston acoustics package i have the lowest one i guess just the single disc one---im just looking for some bass--i like rock music mostly, rap, etc..i need bass and if possible i dont want to spend a fortune either
A: always listen before you buy and pick what sounds good to YOU
when it comes to car audio nine times out of ten you get what you pay for- and you need to look for CEA-compliant brands which means that the amps have been tested and produce or exceed the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion and the subs can handle their advertised RMS wattage also (distortion is the main cause of speaker damage over time)
here are the top CEA-compliant brands
Alpine (highly recommend)
Bazooka (don't like their subs)
Blaupunkt (don't like their subs)
Clarion
Eclipse
Infinity (highly recommend)
JBL
JL Audio (very good but over priced)
JVC
Kenwood (don't like their subs)
Kicker (the best in my opinion)
Lightning Audio (have not heard their subs)
MTX (highly recommend)
Pioneer
Polk Audio (highly recommend)
PPI
Rockford Fosgate (highly recommend)
Sony (don't like their subs)
you want at least 400watts RMS if you are serious and $500 will do it
http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_3867_Kicker+DCVR122.html $300 for two 12inch Kicker CVRs) and for an amp http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_13240_Pioneer+GM-D8400M.html ($210) and the cost of your wiring
Q: Jeep factory amp?
I have the neweer style jeep - '05 that came w/ boston system. im redoing the audi oand the main problem im havin is my front speakers. (there alpine type r 6x9 (100 watts rms each) and im running them thru an alpine headunit w/ factory jeep amp. i dunno where it is its buried somwhere but rns thru headunit. my type r in the front dont have much power and tweeters dont work - wont pay highs or mids i dont think. anyone think its cuz i need new amp? speakers are brand new. any help is good.
A: if its a grand cherokee look under the back seet. it might be there and if it is its probly covered by carpet if its not there call your local jeep dealership they should have a complete wiring diagram that shows where it is
Q: What size are the front door speakers on my 2005 Jeep Cherokee Laredo?
wihtout the Boston Aucostic System
A: Where did you get a 2005 cherokee? They stopped making them after the 2001 model.
Q: Where can I off road in new England?
I recently purchased a Jeep wrangler and I am looking for spots to wheel. I live in the Boston area and would rather not travel more than an hour or so. I'm not looking for anything crazy, just some power line trails or something to get my feet wet. Any ideas?
A: The nice thing about off-roading is that it's done where there is no road. In other words...river beds, fields, woods, malls, beaches, mountains, Fenway Park. Remember that if you don't have permission from the property owner, hide your license plates.
Q: Boston Terrier Question.?
I have a female Boston Terrier,Her name is Molly she is the sweetest most sensitve dog I ever seen. She is 4 years old.She sticks to my fathers side like glue. When he goes to work she just kinda mopes around the house and isnt playfull at all.But as soon as she hears his Jeep she comes to life.I know someone who has to get rid of a male Bostin Terrier and I would like to get him.Do you think it would upset Molly we also have a cat we had the cat first,if my father shows even the slitest intrest in the cat Molly gets really upset but other than that they get along fine,Do you thing another dog would be a bad Idea.
A: Try introducing the dogs to see if they tolerate each other. You want to do this in a neutral area like a park. See how Molly reacts when your dad shows attention to the other dog as well. Also, see if the current owners will allow you to try having him over, say for a weekend to see how Molly will do with him. If the dogs don't get along it probably isn't a good idea to keep him.
Molly thinks she owns your dad, which is why she gets upset with the cat when your dad show it any attention. I would tell her no if she keeps that up and put her outside for about 5 to 10 minutes. You all need to show her you are boss and not her.
Good luck!
Q: Please help '97 Jeep alarm keeps going off?
Hi everyone my sister left for college and left me her '97 Jeep Grand Cherokee to use while she was away. She left me with the valet key. Now the only problem is when I went to go unlock it with the valet key... I unlocked the driver door and the second I opened it the alarm went off. The only way I can get it to go off is by closing the door and letting the alarm go for 3 minutes. If I try and start the car, it will turn on for a second and then turn off. Even if the door is unlocked, the alarm will still go off the second I open it again. Please help me out, I really dont want to go all the way to boston and beg my sister for the main keys. (or pay $200 for a new set)
A: The jeep has an engine imobilizer device installed. You need the actual key for the vehicle as they're microchipped, the valet keys are not and will only start the vehicle if the doors are unlocked prior to using the key. The valet key isn't meant to be used to unlock and drive the vehicle, it is only meant for a valet to be able to park your vehicle for you, or for dealer maintenance. The valet key will not unlock the glovebox either.
As for the failing to start problem, like I said there is an engine imobilizer installed so as soon as the "wrong" key was used the imobilizer sensed it and disabled the fuel system. You can crank on that engine until the battery dies and it will never start. To fix this problem, once you get the actual key to the vehicle you will have to unlock the driver's side door only, open the door press the power door lock button to lock the door. Close the door and then you can open it back up and drive the vehicle. I know it sounds like a pain in the butt. The thing is though its great to actually see that the system does work, and that it definitely won't let someone drive off with your vehicle.
I've had the same problem, but what happened to me was I accidently locked my key in my jeep while the engine was running. After I got my spare key out and unlocked the door, and turned off the engine, that's when all the trouble started. I unlocked the door a few hours later to leave and the alarm went off and I couldn't start my jeep. I actually had to call a 4x4 offroad technician to find out how to fix the problem.
Oh yeah, by the way the fix for this problem is know where to be found in the owner's manual so don't bother looking for it. (Found that out the hard way also).
Just have your sister mail you the main keys. Its not that expensive to mail a key, probably a 42 cent stamp will pay for it.
Hope this helps.

Q: Jeep Patriot...if you have one, what did you pay?
Just bought mine yesterday...Limited 4 x 2, with navigation, leather, sunroof, the boston acustic speakers system, etc. for $23,625 ($1,500 off sticker). Just wondering how I did.
A: I bought one 4 weeks ago! 4x2 sport cvt etc etc for $19,510, autostick, Yes essential, etc. There is a thread at jeeppatriot.com that people have posted what they paid. Watch your sunroof for leaking. Seems to be several owners having a leaky sunroof. If it happens to you take it back to the dealers and have them fix it.
Q: Jeep infinity amp specs?
I have an 02 Grand Cherokee and want to replace the front door speakers with full range. Does anyone know the rms rating of the stock infinity amp? Also I've been going over speaker specs. The spec'd rms range all over the map. One speaker says 2 - 100 rms at 150 peak. The Boston Accoustics say 35 rms.
A: it will still work
the way that you destry the speakers is is you connect a small speaker to a large anplifier and then turn the volume up the speaker voice coil will jump out
Q: Jeep wrangler?

A: That is actually average mileage for a 2000 it is a decent price for it.
Q: im thinking of getting a land rover for school, worth it?
I'm moving to Boston next fall, to attend Babson College.
Since Babson is 14 miles away from Boston, Im going to need a car, prefebably a truck, with a 4x4 drive(a must), since the T is too far away from Babson, and the commuter trail does not run enough.
Im looking at a Land Rover Discovery, because its a good car, especially for the snow.
Im limited in budget, but I have found few choices in Miami, at the right price.
Im also considering also a Jeep Grand Cherokee. But i need some advice guys.

Just want to make some things clear:
I am living in a dorm, I just need a car to go to work, and go out.

A: Dont get a Land Rover Discovery. Its really expensive and its not that great for snow. There are many cheaper 4x4's out there.
They include:
Toyota Rav4
Jeep (any model)
Toyota Highlander
Honda Pilot
Acura MDX (01-06 version)
Nissan Murano
Lexus RX330
Nissan Xterra
Nissan Pathfinder
Toyota FJ Cruiser
Some car makers offer All Wheel Drive (its really similar to 4x4) on their sedans. I know that Audi offers AWD on all of their sedans and Volvo offers it on most of their sedans. I dont know if Volvo started offering AWD on their sedans in the past, but I know you can find a 00-05 Audi sedan with AWD. Infiniti has AWD on their G35 sedan. (i think they started offering it on their 04 model and they call a G35 with AWD a G x35)
