Q: How Should I winterize a 2000 Ford Mustang (Boston)?
Just moved From New Orleans, not sure what I should do to winterize my Mustang

A: I'd first have to ask if you've ever had the coolant flushed. If you have within the last year, there's not much to do. Winterizing yoru car for NO is about the same for Boston. If you haven't changed your coolant or had it flushed, do so. A 50/50 mix should be fine for the NE. Any windshield washer coolant should be fine. If you haven't replaced your plugs on the car in the last year, do so. Then use an in-tank fuel injector cleaner now, and then at every oil change. You might want to use a water remover in your tank like 'Heet'. That's about all you can do. If your battery is more than 4 or 5 years old, consider replacing it. If you haven't, it's probably near death anyway. If it's not a maintenance free battery, have it checked and filled to the proper level. If you don't feel comfortable dowing any of this, any quick lube shop should be able to most of it for you. Hope this helps. Good luck in the land of beans and tea.

Q: Famous Boston Terriers & owners?
I would like to find photos of Boston Terriers with famous owners. I only know of the late Pres. Gerald Ford. Helen Keller's dog sure looked like one, but supposedly was a pit bull. Also....of any famed BTs, such as Sgt. Stubby from World War I. Thanks for any help!

Q: Have you seen a drop in gas mileage for your vehicle over the past 6 months or so?
While I understand that there are many factors that can cause a reduction in gas mileage, including weather, although warmer weather would not cause a decrease, I drive a Toyota Camry, I have two friends who drive SUV's (Jeep and Ford) and another who drives a Solara and we have all noted a significant and abnormal decrease in gas mileage. We all live in the commonwealth of Boston. Who else has noticed an abnormal decrease in gas mileage over the past 6-12 months?

A: since it is affecting all of you i'm going to guess the gas blend has changed. most likely they added more ethanol. since it's summer tire pressure should go up due to higher temps so i'm gonna rule air pressure out.

Q: My 1967 Ford Anglia is a big-time restoration project. Where can I find Parts?
I have purchased four 1967 Ford 105E Anglia's and am working to restore them. I live in the USA (Boston Area), and finding parts has not been easy. Even some mechanics have never seen one before. I have been able to find parts on Ebay, but they are often in poor shape themselves. I did join the (British) Angila owners club, but their charter forbids them from shipping or selling overseas. In the USA, the big older anglias seem to be popular for drag racing, but the 105E's seem to be fairly rare. Any recomendation for finding parts? Many thanks!

Q: I Have 4 12 Inch Boston Acoustics 12.5 Pro Series going in a1998 Accord & need to know which way to face them?
I Have 4 12 Inch Boston Acoustics 12.5 Pro Series going in a1998 Honda Accord & need to know which way to face them. I know I have always faced my subs to the rear so the bass reflects back into the vehicles cabin but the one time I did have 4 12's in a car many years ago I faced them straigt up. When I had 4 12's in a ford ranger and s-10 I faced them forward obviousely but that was a different story. I need to figure out if I should face the 2 speakers to the rear and 2 to the front or 2 to the rear and the front 2 facing up or face all 4 speakers straight up. If anyone Has any Suggestions Please let me know. Thanks.

A: the rule of thumb fot trunks, hatch backs and suv's is to face the subs to the rear.ive seen some custom 4 sub boxes which had 2 subs angled and the other 2 staight, but they still faced the rear

Q: Manual or Automatic Transmittion on Ford Mustang?
Hi, I'm planning to buy my first car and I really love ford mustangs. I'm not into racing nor do I know anything about the car mechanics. I don't even know how to drive manual. I'm just planning to buy a fun car for me that I can enjoy. The only good points i found about manual transmittion is that their good in snow other than that it's not really worth having in a car unless your trying to impress. While manual would be something simple and better in traffic since i'm assuming i'll get more into those situation since i'll be driving in boston, ma. I was just wondering what people think or can give me some advice. I meant to say: While AUTOMATIC would be something simple and better in traffic since i'm assuming i'll get more into those situation since i'll be driving in boston, ma.

A: It's really nothing more than a matter of personal preference and as such, you'll get some people who think that "real" cars only have standard transmissions, or that you're "cooler" if you have a standard... blah blah blah... First of all, I firmly believe that everyone should know how to drive a standard, manual transmission. It's a useful skill to have since one never knows when they'll be placed into a situation where they have to drive a car equipped with one. With that said however, any claims of driving a standard being "cooler" is a bunch of hogwash... Usually made by people who have an overwhelming desire for attention and actually somehow think they're showing off by driving such. Let me tell you... when I first started driving, if someone was seen driving a car with a standard transmission it generally meant that they couldn't afford a car with an automatic - nothing more, nor less. Granted, that's not necessarily the case these days, but anyone who makes any sort of spirited claims either way is usually full of BS. Again... It's completely a matter of personal preference, as these days there aren't even nearly as many practical reasons to choose a manual gearbox as there used to be. Price certainly isn't a factor anymore since automatic transmissions are ubiquitous in today's world... they're no longer considered a "premium" features and consequently, there's hardly any price difference between the two at all. In fact on certain makes and models, people actually pay a little more for the "novelty" of a manual gearbox... Just goes to show how much the times have changed. Another practical difference that has largely disappeared is fuel economy... In the days before computers became commonplace in cars, it was pretty much a given that one could achieve higher miles per gallon shifting through the gears themselves, than let the old slush-boxes do it for them. However, today's computer-controlled automatic transmissions have advanced to the point where they can control up and down-shifts with far greater precision and efficiency than a human being can do. Especially when taking into consideration the "boy-racer" mentality some people have when using a stick. As far as the cost of replacing a manual gearbox compared to an automatic... Yes, standard transmissions generally cost less than an automatic. However, one also has to take into consideration the odds of actually having to replace a transmission or any related parts, in that human error can play a much bigger role with the former than the latter. Specifically concerning your comment about a car with a standard transmission being better in snow, etc... Again, this notion held some merit many, many moons ago before the advent of such things as traction control, which again - are pretty much ubiquitous on today's cars. Not only that, but pretty much all automatics provide the ability to lock the transmission into only first or second gear for use in slippery conditions, climbing or descending steep hills, etc. Personally speaking, we own a Jeep CJ-5 which has a standard transmission and it is honestly a blast to drive... on the weekends. As for my daily drivers on the other hand, they've been automatics-only for several years - they're simple, reliable, and hassle-free... Then again, I have neither the need, nor desire to show off to anyone anymore. In your particular case, seeing as how you're a new driver and this your first car, and especially since you live in a very congested area... I would completely, wholeheartedly recommend that you choose one with an automatic transmission. Use it to get your feet wet and master everything else on the road, then in a few years time if you're looking to pick up a second vehicle or just really, really want to get one, go pick up a car with a standard. Believe me, with the particulars of your current situation - you'll thank yourself later for it.

Q: What does this political cartoon represent?
http://www.boston.com/bostonglobe/editorial_opinion/cartoons/12_01_08_inktank?pg=2 I think it's Irony And HUmor &Symbolism but is there any exagerration/distortion, caricature, or captions. And do the kids represent the businesses in general or certain industries like Ford automobile business? Like what is the meaning really?

A: Because it's the Holidays, for Christmas Santa is telling children that for their misbehaving, kids representing the banks is a stretch, instead of Santa, the US govt, punishing the children with coal, putting the CEOs in prison for malfeasance, Santa is going to give them money. The cartoonist is just trying to tie Christmas gift giving with the bank bailouts.

Q: Ford Motorhome won't go over 40 mph?
Asked this ? last night - Trying to make it to Boston. Here is more info Sounds like it is suck in "low gear" and when you try to accellerate to go faster than 40 miles an hour it hits passing gear like when you punch it but nothing happens. Going up a hill it just SLOWS DOWN, cannot accellerate up a hill. Any ideas on repair for the return home?

A: Since you didn't give much information other than a "Ford Motorhome", it is a little difficult to diagnose. Check fuel pressure and check for a possibly clogged cat. converter or exhaust system - either one will do this and mimic a bad trans. Don't throw money into a trans if that's not the problem. I would have to put my money on a plugged cat. converter if I had to guess.

A: my wife used to go,she saw Trex and the Sweet back in the early 1970s,it is now used as a bingo hall. My wifes friends aunty owned it at the time and she used to use a room out the back to get changed.

Q: Do big modeling agencies like Ford & Elite charge you money to model for them?
I'm 16 years old and my dream is to be a model! I live in MA and have gotten accepted into several agencies in Boston, however they want me to pay thousands of dollars for comp. cards and photo shoots, etc. Because they want so much money, my parents won't let me sign with any of them, but I don't blame them it was a ridiculous amount of money. I was just wondering if anyone had any experience with any of the big agencies out there, or if anyone knew if you have to pay any fees to get accepted. Thanks :)

Q: Back in the Mechanics shop 2nd time,do I have to pay again ??
The mechanic worked on my left back blinker and brake light. It was an electrical problem, he played with the wires and he seemed to fix it and I paid $160. My Ford SUV, again after 1 day the blinker stopped working. Now he has it and said he is ordering a switch. Do I have to pay additional money, for him to fix the same problem for a second time or am I covered under a consumer protection law, and if so what law ? (I am located in Boston, MA) He told us he cleaned some wires and went thru it and it started working, he didn't really fix it per say the first time but worked for only 30 mins then stopped. I had to have it fixed for him to pass inspection.

A: Well a computer if the mechanic is any good will tell whats wrong. There is also a chiltons manual that gives times on repair u can request to see that. And thats what they can charge u. No less no more.
