Buying Cars From Wholesale Auctions

One good way to buy an inexpensive car is through a wholesale auto auction. Many people are unaware that auto dealerships are actually intermediaries between car manufacturers and consumers. They jack up the prices in order to maximize their profits. The guide for prices on these cars is based on two different blue books. The two publications are the Kelly Blue Book (KBB) and the NADA Book. The first one is used more frequently by auto auction dealers to assign wholesale values to cars. If you want to know the optimal price for buying or selling a specific car, you should try consulting the Kelly Blue Book. It will really help to use these two books when purchasing a car through a wholesale auction.

Check the Public Auction Listings

Anyone can make a bid during a public auction. If you're a dealer who's interested in buying or selling from your inventory at these public events, you can obtain a dealer's license to do just that. These events are well advertised with a lot of notice to try to draw in as many possible buyers as they can.

Dealer auctions tend to offer more favorable prices compared to public auctions, so if you're very price-sensitive, getting a dealer's license may be a good idea.

Do Your Homework

There are several sources you can consult to learn the approximate value of a car you're interested in. For instance, you can consult the Kelly Blue Book, which we discussed earlier. You can get valuable information about the values of different makes, models, and options in these books. They can also be helpful in determining a condition-based price for a used car.

Be Keen and Attentive to Details

Pay attention and be attentive to every detail of the car in your inspection since you won't be able to go for a test drive during the auction. Evaluate its condition and check the VIN. You can also use Carfax to investigate the vehicle's ownership history. This is significant because it allows you to determine the car's value.

Car auctions can be quite different from one another; specifically in the way bidding is done. At some auctions you register and pay a fee, but at others you just raise your hand to bid. It may take a lot of patience to get a car through a wholesale car auction, but it will be worth the time in the end to get just the car you want at a super low price.
